Beryl on an old ubuntu install

First things first. You have to get ubuntu up to date. Your best bet is to use the GUI interface especially if you done some hacking on your system.

I personally had to download a brand new iso and reinstall ubuntu. Then I got to update everything and copy and paste the beryl install stuff.

It is so pretty. This thing is completely worth it.

Suddenly my linux machine is better looking then OS X and years ahead of Vista which made start laughing hard enough to almost fall over.

Haven't posted in forever!

Ok so I haven't posted in forever, but I have been busy and life has been weird. Besides I doubt I ever really had a readership.

So Todays/weeks/maybe Months topic... Web site design and networking. How are they related I am dealing with them a lot it seems like.

I finally jumped on the wagon and started to use google analytics. So far it is a really cool software set, but it is pretty sad since it looks like we have had one view on a website in the last day and that view was mine. However since the web site is dedicated to an event that happens once a year I can understand how people wouldn't be looking for it yet.

So far Wordpress has impressed me to no end since it is so flexible. I have had to do very little programming on this so far. However, the few lines that I have had to write are very potent since they make calls to the wordpress functions. If you are going to use wordpress be ready to do a lot of reading of documentation and then you have to verify what the documentation says by reading the code. This is a major draw back, but what can you do?

cloud

Wow I just downloaded and played cloud This game is completley relaxed and easy. You can do what you want. It reminds me of the feeling of FF7 from the music, the art, and the feeling of infinite possibilities. The idea that you can draw shapes in the sky with clouds is really cool. The ability to make shapes gives this game a drawing component that makes this game really fun.

By keeping the game simple Jenova Chen made this game a lot of fun. Its really nice to see a game that does not rely on dirty tricks like "specific save points" or nurturing addictive behavior by using plot twists that are characteristic to TV.

Once you start flying in 3D the game suddenly becomes a lot of fun. The feeling that this game tries to capture is the reason that I started Hang Gliding.

Oh did I mention that this game is pure fun?

My biggest complaint is that I cant play the game on my Mac PowerBook but you cant have everything eh?

new scripting language to learn

Hey all

So I started to learn a new scripting language, I first started with php, but after reading through a few other blogs on various languages I have decided that PHP and MySQL are kind of a kludge.

My reasons for this is that PHP is spread throughout the HTML, which is easy. However having your scripting code spread throughout your HTML is also a serious problem. The reason that having your code inside your HTML is bad is that it updating your code is very difficult. I know that PHP provides functions and that it also provides OO. I will look into using this tomorrow. As of now I'm going to bed.

MySQL sucks because it doesn't follow SQL, although no real database system or RDMS(for you fancy people) really follows the SQL standard. Maybe the SQL standard needs ot be changed to be more realistic. I havn't done a lot of research into this. Getting back to topic I think I'm going to work with postgres for now. Atleast until it pisses me off to no end. And knowing me postgres will probably piss me off in a day or so. So for all you rabid MySQL fans out there dont worry I will be back to MySQL and contemplating going back to postgres.

Sad HUH???

StarGate

Ok so stargate is a cool show I love it....

but now it just sucks. like on th episode I'm watching Stargate Atlantis the colonel captaining the daedalous is totally willing to help atlantis by offering aid from the daedelous crew, when he is the gou'ld agent that planted it. He could have drug his feet and no one would have blamed him!!!! No wonder a technicaly inferior race such as Earth pwned them!!!

Yeah I hate TV. It never makes sense anymore. Its like the writers just get drunk and never sleep off their year long drunk.

Sigh

gentoo and tar.

Ok so I was special enough to do an #emerge -C tar. Then I changed my mirror and did an #emerge tar. The error read something like "ahh I cant untar the tar code so I can compile it"... What id10t programmer decided to use the tared version of the source and not the .gz one.

So I figured I'd have some fun while I downloaded and compiled the .gz version and looked through the gentoo forums on what to do if you had deleted tar. There was only one real response and it simply stated that you had to put in the install cd and copy over some files... I love it gentoo users talk about being soo leet since they compile their whole system from scratch, but when it comes time to actually compile something they dont know what to do.

Its almost like some people are just born hypocritical.

aim

I just moved my girl friend over to gaim from aim. Is it just me or does aol almost write aim to be a virus. Its a pain to get rid of and is really not a very clean program to work with.

For example it can be installed, but you have to reboot windows and go through a lot of different dialog boxes saying yes I'm positive, no I didn't click this by mistake... etc.

Why do programmers do this. If you handle the install part of code write an equally good uninstall side!!!

Probably the best summary for this log is to clean up your mess.
